Jackson State Closes Out its Last Road Swing of the Season with a Victory Over Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| The Jackson State women's basketball team fought back from a 50-49 deficit after the third quarter to take down Prairie View A&M 75-65 on the road Monday evening. The Tigers advance to a perfect 16-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play with the season sweep over PVAMU.

The Tigers had four players score in double figures, led by Ti'lan Boler, who had 21 points. Keshuna Luckett tacked on 17 points from the bench and Miya Crump chipped in as well with 16 points and six rebounds.

Jackson State out-rebounded Prairie View A&M 31-28 in Monday's game, led by Angel Jackson's nine boards.

Jackson State came away with seven blocks in the matchup. Jackson's four rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.

How It Happened

  • After jumping out to a 16-13 advantage, Jackson State (21-6, 16-0SWAC) went on a 5-0 run with 57 seconds left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Ti'Ian Boler, to increase its lead to 21-13.
  • The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 21-15 advantage.
  • Jackson State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 21 points.
  • JSU maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 34-28 edge.
  • Jackson State ran the fast break well, scoring six fast break points.
  • The Tigers lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Panthers 50-49 entering the fourth.
  • Jackson State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled six of the team's 15 third-quarter points.
  • JSU managed to gain control and had a 68-65 lead before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 75-65 with three seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game.
  • Jackson State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring seven of its 26 total points.

  • Jackson State shot 43.5 percent (26-for-46) from the field, 50 percent (6-for-12) from the arc and 93.5 percent (29-for-31) from the free throw line.
  • The Tigers finished with 24 points in the paint, 20 bench points,14 fast break points, seven second chance points and six points off of nine PVAMU turnovers.
  • Prairie View A&M shot 39.4 (26-for-66) percent form the field and 81.8 (9-for-11) percent from the free throw line.
  • Ryann Payne led the way for the Panthers with 21 points and four rebounds.
  • Jada Roberson followed with10 points and five rebounds.
  • The Panthers finished with 34 points in the paint, 29 bench points,, 17 points off of 15 JSU turnovers, 16 second chance points and five fast break points.
