TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| The Jackson State softball team was not able to record a run against Florida A&M on Friday afternoon in game one of its weekend series. The Tigers were shut out 2-0 by the Rattlers.
Senior Victoria Salazar (10-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing no walks and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (23-12, 11-4 SWAC) managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.
- The Tigers last got a runner on third in the seventh, when sophomore Beija Allen made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
- Florida A&M scored in the bottom of the third and again in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- JSU was able to bring any runs home in the opening matchup.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State limited Florida A&M's offense to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
- Allen led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-2.
- Florida A&M was led offensively by senior Nyomi Jones, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
- Hughes led the Rattlers pitching staff, throwing seven scoreless innings.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will face the Rattlers in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT to close out the series.
