JSU Ties Series in Game One of the Doubleheader, Fall in Game Two to FAMU

GAME 1 | Jackson State 10, Florida A&M 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| Jackson State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Tigers put 10 runs on the board and knock off the Florida A&M Rattlers 10-1 Saturday.

Sofia Gonzalez (4-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jackson State (24-12, 12-4) got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning.
  • JSU plated a run on a based-loaded walk by junior Julie Lopez.
  • FAMU failed to push any runs across before the Tigers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the Tigers lead to 4-0.
  • Jackson State held Florida A&M without a run before building their lead to 10-0 the following inning.
  • The Tigers bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior Meah Almaraz and a two-run triple from Mari Stephens.

Jace Jackson went 2-for-3 with a triple, but the Jackson State Tigers still came up short on Saturday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the Florida A&M Rattlers by a final of 4-1.

Victoria Salazar (10-7) got the ball to start for Jackson State and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • JSU (24-13, 12-5) trailed 4-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board.
  • Jackson State got on the board thanks to Meah Almaraz's RBI double with two outs.
  • The Tigers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
