JACKSON, Miss.| Kristina Carlson strung together three hits to help lead the Jackson State softball team over the Alabama State 5-4 Saturday afternoon in the Tigers regular season finale.
Sofia Gonzalez (8-6) got the win for Jackson State in the circle. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on 12 hits.
In addition to her three hits, Carlson had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Tigers. Mari Stephens furnished a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ka'Liyah Gipson also chipped in for Jackson State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (28-17, 15-8 SWAC) trailed 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board.
- JSU got an RBI single from sophomore Jace Jackson, scoring Stephens from second base.
- The Tigers deficit expanded to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the second inning.
- Jackson State pushed across a run on Carlson's one-out RBI double, which tightened the Hornets lead to 3-2.
- JSU held the Hornets off the board before rallying to grab a 5-3 lead in the fourth.
- Alabama State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Jackson State still held on for the 5-4 win.
