LAFAYETTE, La.| The Jackson State volleyball team fought back after losing set one to secure a 3-1 win (20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 27-25) against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Friday night in game two of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
JSU was led by a double-double from Jayden James, who registered 10 kills and 16 digs on the day. Alexis Williams also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 11 digs to go with four blocks from Jordan Jones.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (2-0) found themselves in an early hole, dropping the first set 25-20.
- JSU trailed by as many as nine points as Louisiana never gave up the lead in a set that was knotted up just once before the Ragin' Cajuns took control.
- The Tigers evened the match at 1-1 following a 25-19 set-two win.
- JSU never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that featured seven ties and five lead changes.
- Jackson State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Louisiana attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Louisiana attacking errors on the way to victory.
- The Tigers grabbed another win in set three to make it a 2-1 match.
- JSU survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-22 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied nine times.
- Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way. The Lady Tigers racked up 18 kills over the course of the set.
- Jackson State closed out the match with a 27-25 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set.
- The Tigers came out on top of a close battle, winning in a stanza that was tied six times and had three lead changes.
