LAFAYETTE, La.| The Jackson State volleyball team closed out a pretty successful opening weekend at the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic against UT Arlington Saturday afternoon. The Tigers could not get through the Mavericks offense falling in three sets (14-25, 22-25, 18-25).
Inside the Numbers
- Jayden James finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Tigers' attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .333.
- JSU got six digs from Trinity Bryant and Alexis Williams to lead them defensively.
- Karys Dove had a team-high two aces in the loss.
- Jackson State attackers were helped by a team-high 14 assists from Dove.
- Naija Gadis chipped in with 11 assists on the day.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (2-1) fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-14.
- The Tigers trailed by as many as 11 points as UT Arlington grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Mavericks took control.
- JSUÂ then lost the second set 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none.
- The Tigers dropped a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied 12 times.
- Neither team led by more than three points along the way.
- JSU couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three.
- The Tigers fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set 25-18.
