CONWAY, Ark.| The Jackson State volleyball team got the job done in four sets (26-24, 25-17, 18-25, 25-14, 25-14) to defeat the Little Rock Trojans Friday at Prince Center to open the Central Arkansas Invitational.
The Tigers were led by another double-double from Alexis Williams, who registered 12 kills and 16 digs on the day. Nyjha Marcelin also added nine kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 19 digs to go with five blocks from Jordan Jones.
How It Happened
- The Tigers came out on top of a tight first set, winning 26-24 in a stanza that was tied eight times and had three lead changes got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Little Rock attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 10 Little Rock attacking errors on the way to victory.
- Jackson State continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-17 victory in set two.
- JSU took control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and never trailed.
- Jackson State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, eight points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills along the way.
- The Jackson State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
- Little Rock avoided an early loss with a third-set win to make it a 2-1 match.
- The Tigers lost a tough set 25-18. Jackson State trailed by as many as seven points as Little Rock grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Trojans took over the lead.
- Jackson State then responded to finish off the match with a 25-14 set-four victory.
- The Tigers took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory.
- Jackson State finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 11 points, to close out the set, totaling 18 kills in the process. Jackson State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
