JACKSON, Miss.| Jayden James and Alexis Williams each put up double-doubles to help propel the Jackson State volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (25-27, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15) over Bethune-Cookman Sunday afternoon at Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The Tigers were led by the double-doubles from Williams, who had 12 kills and 15 digs, and James, who had 16 kills and 13 digs. Hope Briggs added 14 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 12 digs to go with four blocks from Kyra Dove.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (5-8, 1-1 SWAC) couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth first set, losing 27-25 in a game that featured four lead changes and was tied seven times.
- Neither team led by more than four points in the first set.
- The Tigers responded to pick up a 25-22 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece.
- JSU led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory.
- Jackson State opened up as much as a 10-point lead at 21-11 before finishing off the set.
- The Tigers' offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
- JSU built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one.
- The Tigers endured a furious Bethune-Cookman rally in the set, hanging on to win 26-24 after leading by seven points at 14-7 earlier in the stanza.
- Jackson State closed out the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set.
- The Tigers scored first on a kill from Hope Briggs and never trailed in the set to earn the victory.
- Jackson State finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 10 points, to close out the set, collecting 19 kills in the set to claim its first conference win of the season.
