JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State women's basketball team shot 55.6 percent from beyond the arc on the way to a 73-62 win against Florida A&M at home Thursday.
The Tigers had two players score in double figures, led by
Taleah Dilworth, who had 23 points and two steals.
Leianya Massenat added 17 points and
Zoe Cooper added five points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
The Jackson State offense was very productive from downtown, making 10 threes on 18 attempts.
Dilworth was the most prolific shooter for the Tigers, draining three treys in the contest.
Jackson State came away with six blocks in the matchup. Cooper's three rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
- After falling behind 9-2, Jackson State (7-10, 5-1 SWAC) went on a 9-0 run with 7:49 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Zaria Glover, to take an 11-9 lead.
- The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-19 advantage.
- JSU relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
- Florida A&M fought back to tie the game at 20-20 before Jackson State went on a 10-0 run starting at the 8:10 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Massenat, to take a 30-20 lead.
- Florida A&M (6-11, 3-3 SWAC) then came slithering back to take a 33-31 lead heading into halftime.
- Jackson State came out of halftime on fire, going on a 13-0 run to grab a 44-33 lead with 6:32 to go in the third.
- Before the conclusion of the third period, the Rattlers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Tigers still entered the fourth quarter with a 53-46 edge.
- JSU played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 22 points in the paint.
- Jackson State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 58-50 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Dilworth's layup, to grow the lead to 65-50 with 6:24 to go in the contest.
- The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still cruised the rest of the way for the 73-62 win.
- Jackson State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
Inside the Numbers
- Jackson State shot 46 percent (23-for-50) from the field and 73.9 percent (17-for-23) from the free throw line.
- The Tigers finished with 22 points in the paint, 22 bench points, 19 points off of 20 FAMU turnovers, seven second chance points and three bench points.
- JSU made over half of their attempts from three-point range, knocking down 10 of 18 shots.
