Johnson becomes latest coach to receive contract extension

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State head baseball coach Omar Johnson received a contract extension following his sixth year at the helm, announced by the Jackson State University Division of Athletics on Wednesday morning.

Johnson becomes the seventh coach in the last three months to receive a contract extension from Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson, joining T.C. Taylor (football), Mo Williams (basketball), Marcus Hereford (volleyball), Dr. Ted Flogaites (soccer), Hernan Geria (tennis), and Kevin Montgomery (softball). Last season, Johnson led the team to a 36-20 record, reaching the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship game. Since taking over the program in 2007, Johnson has led the Tigers to a pair of conference championships and an undefeated regular season in 2021.
