TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Tigers wrapped up the cross country season at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships on Monday afternoon, with multiple personal bests and a second-place finish by
Godfrey Kimutai.
Kimutai, a standout freshman, shined as he finished second in the men's 8k with a time of 25:45.7, leading the men's team to a fourth-place finish. Following him was
Malvin Boen, who recorded a time of 28:30.8 to round off the top 20.
Ber'Narjay Jackson,
Fabian Campbell, and
Dominic Turner all suited up for their final cross country contests of their collegiate careers, placing 37th, 43rd, and 55th, respectively. Derick Eskridge also finished in the top 50.
The women's team was led by freshman
Lorine Jelagat, who cracked the top 25 with a time of 20:49.8 in the 8k.
Joan Koech followed behind her with a 28th-place finish. The Lady Tigers' trio of
Kaylin Jackson,
Stephy Venuti, and
Karina Griffin finished together, taking the 35th, 36th, and 37th spots. Seniors
Amara Hawkins-Quinones and
Xhamani Thompson rounded off the Jackson State runners in their collegiate races for cross country. The Lady Tigers came in sixth place as a team.
