AUBURN, Ala. | Jayme Mitchell Jr. led three players in double figures for Jackson State but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell 112-66 to No. 22 Auburn at Neville Arena on Wednesday night.
Mitchell finished the night just two points off his career high with 24 points, connecting on 8-of-12 shots from the floor including four three-pointers. He also finished 4-of-7 from the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Daeshun Ruffin with 18 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the floor and hitting on all eight of his free throws. He also finished with four assists and a pair of steals.
Meanwhile, Dorian McMillian finished with 16 points and Ebo Wilson matched his career-high with eight rebounds.
Jackson State finished the night shooting 41.1 (23-of-56) percent from the floor and 33.3 (6-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 73.7 (14-of-19) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Auburn finished the night shooting 64.6 (42-of-65) percent from the floor and 40.6 (13-of-32) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 78.9 (15-of-19) percent from the free throw line.Â
KeShawn Murphy paced five players in double figures for Auburn (4-1) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Inside the Numbers
Auburn shot 57.9 (22-of-38) percent from the floor and 29.4 (5-of-17) percent from beyond the arc in the first half to pull away from Jackson State after the Tigers took an early first half lead. They also shot 60.0 (6-of-10) percent from the free throw line, while assisting on 14 of 22 baskets. Meanwhile, Jackson State finished the first half shooting 31.0 (9-of-29) percent from the floor and 33.3 (3-of-9) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 60.0 (3-of-5) percent from the free throw line and assisted on three of its nine baskets.
Mitchell and Dorian McMillian combined for 18 first half points for Jackson State, while Ebo Wilson grabbed seven total rebounds including three offensive rebounds.
In the second half, Jackson State shot 53.8 (14-of-26) percent from the floor and 33.3 (3-of-9) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 78.6 (11-of-14) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Auburn finished the second half shooting 74.1 (20-of-27) percent from the floor and 53.3 (8-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the half connecting on all nine of their free throws.
Jackson State played without Jalen Tatum, Keiveon Hunt (missed all four games), Dionjahe Thomas (missed all four games), Mike Williams, and Raevon Thomas (missed all four games).
