Jackson State Rolls Past Alabama State 4–0 to Reach SWAC Semifinals

Prairie View, Texas| The Jackson State women's soccer team opened the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Soccer Tournament in dominant fashion Thursday morning, defeating Alabama State 4–0 at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Jackson State (8–6–3 overall, 6–1–1 SWAC) controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Hornets 14–5 and recording their fifth shutout in the last six matches.

How It Happened

Senior forward Caylah Williams continued her postseason brilliance, scoring twice to lead Jackson State's attack. Zaniyah Gonzague and Josetiarainnah Olaco added goals, while defenders Sarah Portis and Asia Wilson each tallied assists.
Goalkeepers Taylor Osborn and Valentina Goodloe combined for the clean sheet, facing only one shot on goal. The Tigers' back line, anchored by Portis, Jaelyn Greer, and Kianah Farmer, held Alabama State without a shot for the opening 30 minutes and to just one attempt on target all match.

Jackson State pressed early, earning multiple corners through Kyla Gomez and Kaila Tablado. Caylah Williams forced her first save at the 29-minute mark before finally breaking through in the 44th minute, slotting home a right-footed finish off a feed from Portis for her seventh goal of the season.
At the break, JSU led 1–0 and held an 8–2 shot advantage.

Just 94 seconds after kickoff, Zaniyah Gonzague doubled the lead with a left-footed strike into the lower corner. Alabama State's frustration grew, as Emmanuella Yapi was shown a yellow card in the 51st minute, followed by cautions to Sarah Portis and Jaelyn Greer for JSU later in the half.
In the 67th minute, Williams struck again — her second of the day and eighth of the year — finishing a pass from Asia Wilson to make it 3–0. Two minutes later, Olaco capped the scoring with her first career goal, extending the lead to 4–0.
Coach Dr. Ted Flogaites' side closed out the match confidently, controlling possession over the final 20 minutes while rotating in depth across the bench
