Brown Registers Double-double, Two Others Score in Double Figures at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.| After a strong showing in the first half, Jackson State wasn't able to hold on the Tide falling 62-51. Miikayla Brown registerd a double-double scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds in the matchup.

How It Happened 
  • Jackson sprinted out to 10-8 lead as Leianya Massenat and Mikayla Brown paced the Tigers offense to open the matchup.
  • Following the media timeout, Alabama tied the match at 10 with a jumper from Jessica Timmons.
  • Alabama built on its first quarter lead carrying a 20-13 advantage into the second. 
  • Jaileyah Cotton gave the Tigers more life after her three-point basketball to open the second quarter.
  • JSU continued to chip away at the small deficit bringing the score to 22-20 with Derrica McCall's jump shot.
  • A deep three from Angel Wilkinson, assisted by Pierre-Noelle Tchehchoua, for the Tide to call a timeout as the Tigers trailed by on, 23-24.
  • Alabama proceeded to go on an 11-2 run to close out the half 35-25.
  • Jackson State got on the board first in the third quarter with a good layup from Brown.
  • Alabama created more space between them when Diana Collins knocked down a three-point jumper to make the lead 38-27.
  • The Tigers only came within six points of the Tide in the quarter, rounding out the period trailing 46-39.
  • JSU continued to trail, but Rhema Pegues' knockdown three shed a little light on the situation at 6:31 in the fourth quarter.
  • Back-to-back threes from Pegues and Massenat cut away at Alabama's advantage, but the Tide went on to secure the 62-51 win.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Tigers shot 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from deep and 20-for-58 (34.5 percent) from the field.
  • Leianya Massenat led JSU's offense with 13 points while adding five rebounds and two assists.
  • Mikayla Brown recorded a double-double finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Brown also added an assist and a block to her stat line.
  • Rhema Pegues finished with 11 points.
  • Jackson State finished with 24 points in the paint, seven seconds chance points, six points off of 10 Alabama turnovers, six bench points and two fastbreak points.
  • Alabama shot 44.2 percent (23-for-52) from the field and 76.5 percent (13-for-17) from the free throw line.
  • Diana Collins scored 20 points to lead Alabama's offense.
  • UA finished with 38 points in the paint, 20 points off of 123 JSU turnovers, 13 second chance points, 12 bench points, and four fast break points.
