WEST LAFAYETTE, IN| The Jackson State women's basketball team shot 52.4 percent from three-point range, but fell to the Purdue Boilermakers 93-62 on the road Sunday.
The Tigers (2-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Leianya Massenat, who had 19 points. Rhema Pegues tacked on 12 points and Mikayla Brown chipped in as well with 10 points and six rebounds.
JSU's offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 threes on 21 attempts. Pegues was the most prolific shooter for the Tigers, draining four treys in the contest.
Jackson State forced 13 Purdue turnovers. The Tigers turned those takeaways into eight points on the offensive end of the floor. Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua led the way individually with three steals.
How It Happened
- Jackson State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 28-15 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 54-24 halftime deficit.
- Purdue continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 58-26 advantage before Jackson State went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Massenat, to trim its deficit to 58-34 with 7:21 to go in the third.
- The Boilers countered and stretched its lead to 72-43 heading into the fourth.
- JSU knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
- Jackson State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 93-62.
- The Tigers fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 19 points.
