Game 13 Preview: Tigers return to action after 10 days off, face TCU on the road on Monday

Jackson State returns to action for the first time in 10 days, hitting the road to face TCU on Monday, Dec. 29, in its final non-conference game of the season.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN+.

The meeting will be the third meeting between the two schools, with TCU winning all three meetings - all in Fort Worth. The teams last met Nov. 12, 2010 when TCU claimed an 86-62 victory. The two teams first met Nov. 22, 2005 [a 76-74 TCU victory]. Game Notes

  • Ruffin poured in 36 points and dished out six assists, leaving him just one point shy of his career-high in points, and followed that up with 25 points against Norfolk State to give him 854 career points. He has scored in double figures nine of the 11 games he has played in this season.
  • Delyle Williams got his first start of the year with Ruffin missing the Winthrop game [11.23].
  • Head coach Mo Williams has two sons on the bench [at least at some point this season] with his son KyDarrius serving as a an assistant coach, while another of his sons - Mike - comes in as a highly-touted recruit from Germantown High School.
  • Mitchell missed his career high in points by just two when he scored 24 points against Auburn [11.19.25], while Ebo Wilson equaled his career-high with eight rebounds.
  • The home game against Winthrop [11.23.25] was the first non-conference home game in six years.
  • Jackson State held Louisiana [11.28.25] to 45 points, the lowest point total an opponent has scored since Mississippi Valley State [Feb. 8] was held to 44 in Jackson State win in the lone win of the 2025 season.
  • The Tigers have now dressed every player on the roster with the exception of Keiveon Hunt, who is expected to miss the entire season rehabbing a knee injury he suffered in the SWAC Championship Game last season, and has used 11 different starting line-ups in 12 games this season.
  • The game at Houston [seventh] marked the fifth game against a nationally-ranked opponent after Jackson State has faced [ranked at the time] Illinois [17th], Louisville [11th], Auburn [20th], and Arkansas [14th] so far this season. That is the most ranked teams played in the conference. They have also played the second-toughest schedule in the country according to multiple sources.
  • Mike Williams had a career game against Kennesaw State [12.2.25] finishing with a career-high 12 points, earning his first start on the road against Houston. However, he was injured against Hampton [12.18.25], and has not returned to the lineup.
  • Ruffin, Mitchell, and McMillian have combined to score 478 points this season - 65.6 percent of the points. The trio is averaging 39.8 points per game and have combined to score in double figures 23 times [Ruffin - nine, Mitchell - eight, McMillian - six].
  • Ruffin is closing in on 1,000 career points in the 2025-26 season. After missing non-conference play last season, Ruffin has responded with 195 points through 11 non-conference games this season. That total is the second highest total [only trailing 377 total points last season], and has recorded 854 career points [572 at Jackson State].
  • A pair of players, Mitchell [550] and Raevon Thomas [574], have joined the 500-point club, while McMillian is poised to do so in just his second season. The sophomore enters the week with 472 career points in 46 games.
