BIRMINGHAM, Al | The Jackson State Tigers wrapped up their final meet before championships with an impressive 10 top-five finishes, including a first-place finish in the 800-meter race by Amara Hawkins-Quinones.
Hawkins-Quinones, who has been a highlight for the Tigers in both cross-country and indoor seasons, won her race with a time of 2:17.16. Erkyah Garrett cracked the top three in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.84. The women also shined in the field events with senior Lillian Dudley and graduate Gabrielle Holliday performing well in throws. Dudley placed second in shot put with a distance of 14.02 meters and third in weight throw with 15.66 meters. Holliday also placed fifth in weight throw with a heave of 15.22 meters. Jacquel Williams placed second in high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters.
On the men's side, Jace Coleman ran for a time of 6.88 in the 60-meter dash to place fourth. Tyjah Edwards also placed fourth in the 400-meter race, clocking in at 48.62. In the field events, senior Dalon Harris placed fifth with a heave of 16.18 meters in weight throw. Jordin Smith cracked the top five in high jump with a distance of 1.89 for fifth place.
Jackson State also had three personal bests on Saturday headlined by Nakerrius Eppenger, Jordan Robinson, and Stephy Venuti. Eppenger sprinted for a time of 7.06 in the preliminary rounds of the 60-meter dash. Robinson ran for a 50.65 in the 400-meter race. Venuti clocked in at 2:27.78 in the 800-meter race.
