Jackson State Secures Last Minute Lead to Outlast FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| The Jackson State women's basketball team rallied from a 32-27 deficit after the third quarter to take down Florida A&M 40-37, thanks to an impressive defensive outing on the road Saturday.

Taleah Dilworth led the Tigers (13-11, 11-2) with eight points. Zoe Cooper tacked on four points and seven rebounds and Diaka Berete chipped in as well with eight points off the bench.

The Jackson State defense held Florida A&M shooters to just 22.2 percent from the field, including 15.4 percent from three-point range. The Tigers also kept Cheyenne McEvans to 2-of-14 shooting and nine points in the game.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State (13-11, 11-2 SWAC) struggled out of the gate, falling behind 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Tigers fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 18-15 by the time halftime rolled around.
  • JSU's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Tigers faced a 32-27 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Jackson State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.
  • The Tigers kept the Rattlers from increasing their lead before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Jaileyah Cotton's jumper, to seize a 40-37 lead with 15 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game.
  • JSU took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 13 points in the paint.
