Three Tigers Post Double Figures, Still Not Enough to Overcome Alcorn State

JACKSON, Miss.| Leianya Massenat scored 17 points and Taleah Dilworth had 15 more, but the Tigers fell to the Alcorn State Braves 64-51 at home Saturday. Zoe Cooper also posted 13 rebounds, but none of it was enough to defeat Alcorn State.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 7:02 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Dilworth, to increase its lead to 20-12.
  • Alcorn State (9-16, 7-7 SWAC) cut into that lead, but the Tigers still enjoyed a 22-21 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Jackson State dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.
  • JSU began to trail in the third quarter, 50-33 entering the fourth.
  • The Tigers kept the Braves from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Dilworth's layup, to shrink the deficit to 53-42 with 6:59 to go in the contest.
  • Jackson State got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring four fast break points.
  • Alcorn State responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game 64-51.
