Dilworth Scores 30, Montoya Posts Double-double in Loss to Prairie View A&M

JACKSON, Miss.|Taleah Dilworth totaled 30 points and Shalance Montoya posted a double-double, but the Jackson State women's basketball team fell to  Prairie View A&M 71-63 at home Thursday evening.

Beside Dilworth's 30-point game, Montoya added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Zoe Cooper added two points, seven rebounds and five steals.

Jackson State out-rebounded Prairie View A&M 41-25 in Thursday's game, paced by Montoya's 11 boards. The Tigers also grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.

The JSU defense was a problem in Thursday's game, forcing 13 Prairie View A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the offensive end of the floor. Cooper's five steals led the way individually for the Tigers.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State (13-13, 11-4 SWAC) struggled out of the gate, falling behind 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Tigers fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 33-29 by the time halftime rolled around.
  • JSU's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Tigers faced a 55-44 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
  • The Tigers took advantage of four Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.
  • Jackson State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 71-63.
