JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State swept a doubleheader with Lane Wednesday, winning the first game 7-1 and the nightcap 4-0, at Braddy Field.
In the opener, Jackson State pounded out 10 hits including a 3-for-4 day for Ledy Alvarez with a two-run home run in the first inning. Seven other Tigers picked up a hit with Arjun Huerta picking up a pair of RBI on a two-run single in the first. Caleb Gallant (1-0) made his first appearance as a Tiger in relief of starter Eric Elliott and picked up the win working 3.0 innings and allowing just two hits and striking out five.
Elliott started and went 2.0 innings and allowed one run (unearned) on two hits with five strikeouts, and Nkosi Didder pitched the final 2.0 innings of hitless relief.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Jackson State (6-2) was held to four hits, however, Huerta added two more RBI for the day and Wilbert Perez hit a 416-foot home run in the sixth inning for insurance as the Tigers recorded their second shutout in four games. Miles Thomas (1-0), the first of four pitchers used on the day, picked up the win in the start working 4.0 innings and allowing just four hits with five strikeouts. JeAndrick Lourens went 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit and CJ Lewis worked the final inning of hitless relief.

- 1st inning - Huerta singled through the right side, 2 RBI; Pierre Cabral scored; Anthony Brown scored. Alvarez homered to left field, 2 RBI; Huerta scored, Jackson State 4-1.
- 3rd inning - Brown walked, RBI; Jordan McCladdie advanced to second; Hederick Torres advanced to third; Nazhir Bergen scored. Brown advanced to second on a wild pitch; McCladdie advanced to third on a wild pitch; Torres scored on a wild pitch. Brown advanced to third on a wild pitch; McCladdie scored on a wild pitch, Jackson State 7-1.
How it Happened - Game Two
- 1st inning - McCladdie stole third, scored on a throwing error by c, unearned. Huerta, Jackson State 1-0.
- 3rd inning - Huerta lined out to cf, SF, RBI; McCladdie, Jackson State 2-0.
- 5th inning - Huerta doubled to center field, RBI; Brown scored, Jackson State 3-0.
- 6th inning - Perez homered to left center, RBI, Jackson State 4-0.
