JACKSON, Miss. | Shannon Grant led six players in double figures for Jackson State in a 92-44 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Lee E. Williams AAC on Saturday.
Grant finished the night with 18 points on a perfect night from the floor (7-of-7) and from the free throw line (4-of-4) in just 19 minutes on the court. Dorian McMillian added 12 points and three rebounds in 21 minutes, Daeshun Ruffin added 12 points and four assists (22 minutes), and Juan Reyna III chipped in with 12 points off the bench with three three-pointers.
Dylan Canoville scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his first double-double, and Tamarion Hoover added 10 points off the bench.
Jackson State (7-16, 7-3 SWAC) finished the night shooting 51.7 (30-of-58) percent from the floor and 45.5 (10-of-22) percent from beyond the arc in the win. They also finished the night shooting 66.7 (22-of-33) percent from the free throw line while winning the rebounding battle 45-22. The Tigers doubled up Mississippi Valley State in the paint (40-20) and outscored the Delta Devils off the bench (38-22), forcing 14 turnovers.
Inside the Numbers
Jackson State finished the first half shooting 53.6 (15-of-28) percent from the floor and 37.5 (3-of-8) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 63.6 (7-of-11) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the first half shooting 40.0 (8-of-20) percent from the floor and 22.2 (2-of-9) percent from beyond the arc in the first half. They also shot 50.0 (3-of-6) percent from the free throw line.
In the second half, the Tigers shot 50.0 (15-of-30) percent from the floor and 50.0 (7-of-14) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the second half shooting 68.2 (15-of-22) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State shot 24.0 (6-of-25) percent from the floor and hit just one of 10 from beyond the arc in the second half. They also shot 83.3 (10-of-12) percent from the free throw line.
Jackson State held Mississippi Valley State to 31.1 (14-of-45) percent from the floor and 15.8 (3-of-19) percent from beyond the arc.
Game Notes
- Canoville recorded his first career double-double, connecting on a pair of free throws late to become the third player to record a double-double this season for Jackson State joining Grant and Ruffin.
- The Tigers had six players in double figures for the second time in as many games, the first time that has happened under head coach Mo Williams.
- The 48-point margin is the largest for the Tigers in the last three years, and is the largest margin of victory for Williams in his fifth year as a head coach.
