HONOLULU, HI | The Jackson State Tigers fell 2-1 in an eight-inning matchup to Howard Saturday to close out the Outrigger Invitational.
Brooklyn Morris (3-3) came out of the bullpen for and took the loss. The left-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up one run without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out two. Jorgina Gant was a bright spot for the Tigers, starting the ballgame and throwing five innings, giving up one run on six hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (10-8) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning.
- Mari Stephens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State and get them on the board.
- The Tigers were unable to hold the lead, as Howard scored two times over the remaining seven innings to grab the 2-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
- JSU's pitchers limited Howard to just 1-for-7 (.143) with runners in scoring position, while facing 30 Howard hitters in the game, allowing 13 ground balls and six fly balls while striking out three.
- Jace Jackson led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Howard was led offensively by sophomore Merci Hart, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
- Mia Gonzales led the Bison pitching staff, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings.
