Tigers sweep Tougaloo

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State swept a doubleheader over Tougaloo in midweek action at Braddy Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson State (11-3) picked up seven hits in game one of the doubleheader, pulling away for a 7-4 victory. Bryce Benton led the way at the plate finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Shemar Harris picked up a pair of RBI in the opener. Erick Gonzalez (2-0) picked up the win as he and Caleb Gallant split the first four innings, while CJ Lewis picked up his first save of the season.

The Tigers followed that up with 13 hits as they ran away from Tougaloo in the nightcap 15-3 to complete the sweep, including three hits each from Ledy Alvarez and Hederick Torres. A pair of Tigers, Jordan McCladdie and Arjun Huerta each picked up two hits in the game with five players picking up multiple RBI in the win. Carson Foster (1-0), the first of four pitchers, picked up the win in the start.

How it Happened - Game One

  • 1st inning - Pierre Cabral singled to left field, RBI (1-1); Jordan McCladdie scored, Jackson State 1-0.
  • 2nd inning - Shemar Harris doubled to left center, RBI (2-1); Darwin Gregg scored. Bryce Benton singled up the middle, RBI (3-2); Harris scored. McCladdie tripled to right field, RBI (2-0); Benton scored.  Ledy Alvarez flied out to cf, SF, RBI (2-1); McCladdie scored, Jackson State 5-0.
  • 6th inning - Gage Lewis advanced to second on a wild pitch; Bryant McCorvey advanced to third on a wild pitch; Matt Jones scored on a wild pitch. Travarez Thomas reached on an error by ss (2-0); Lewis scored, unearned; McCorvey scored. Khilan Magee flied out to lf, SF, RBI (1-1); Grant Carmichael advanced to second; Orlando Truss advanced to third; Thomas scored, unearned, Jackson State 5-4.
  • 6th inning - Nazhir Bergen flied out to rf, SF, RBI (1-1); Gregg advanced to third; Arjun Huerta scored, unearned. Harris flied out to cf, SF, RBI (1-0); Gregg scored, unearned, Jackson State 7-4.

Hederick Torres doubled through the left side, 2 RBI (3-2); Davione Hull scored; Benton scored.  Tyshon Patty singled up the middle, RBI (1-1); Torres scored. Alvarez singled to left field, advanced to second on the throw, RBI (3-1); McCladdie advanced to third; Patty scored. Huerta walked, RBI (3-0); Eichelberger advanced to second; Alvarez advanced to third; McCladdie scored. Benton hit by pitch, RBI (3-2); Huerta advanced to second; Eichelberger advanced to third; Alvarez scored, Jackson State 9-0.
  • 2nd inning - McCladdie singled up the middle, RBI (0-2); Torres scored, unearned, Jackson State 10-0.
  • 3rd inning - Thomas doubled to right field, RBI (2-0); Landon Williams scored, Jackson State 10-1.
  • 4th inning - Thomas singled through the left side, RBI (0-1); Crishton Chapman advanced to second; Williams advanced to third; McCorvey scored, unearned, Jackson State 10-2.
  • 4th inning - McCladdie singled to center field, advanced to second on the throw, RBI (1-2); Patty advanced to third; Bergen scored. Alvarez singled through the left side, 2 RBI (0-0); McCladdie scored; Patty scored, Jackson State 13-2.
  • 5th inning -Torres singled through the left side, RBI (0-0); Bergen advanced to second; Hull scored. Patty flied out to lf, SF, RBI (3-2); Bergen scored, Jackson State 15-2.
