JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat Grambling State 6-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action on Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field, claiming the series in the process.
Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, Jackson State (16-10, 4-5 SWAC) scored a pair of runs using a wild pitch and Grambling State error to tie the game at 4-all. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers took the lead on an RBI single up the middle from Joseph Eichelberger before Wilbert Perez doubled off the center field wall to score Eichelberger for an insurance run.
The Tigers pounded out 13 hits off Grambling State pitching including three from Ledy Alvarez who finished 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored from the lead-off spot. Eichelberger finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while Darwin Gregg went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Robert Tate Jr. finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Stevins Spurgeon Jr. (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Erick Gonzalez, working 3.0 innings and scattering five hits with four strikeouts. Meanwhile, Gonzalez went 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits with six strikeouts, and Nkosi Didder pitched the final inning to pick up his first save of the season. Over the course of the weekend, Jackson State pitchers struck out 39 total hitters (averaging 13 strikeouts per game against Grambling State).

- 6th inning - Nyan Hayes tripled to center field, RBI; LaMarcus Jones scored. Keanu Jacobs-Guishard walked; Hayes scored on a wild pitch. Bridges singled up the middle, RBI; Martavius Thomas advanced to third; Jacobs-Guishard scored, Grambling State 4-2.
- 6th inning - Jordan McCladdie walked; Alvarez advanced to second; Hederick Torres scored on a wild pitch. Perez reached on a throwing error by ss; McCladdie advanced to third; Alvarez scored, unearned, 4-4.
- 8th inning - Eichelberger singled up the middle, RBI; Alvarez scored. Perez doubled to center field, RBI; Eichelberger scored, Jackson State 6-4.
