ITTA BENA, Miss. | Jackson State came back from a second-half deficit to defeat Mississippi Valley State 66-62 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Jackson State (14-17, 14-4 SWAC) won its sixth straight game after tying the game up at 59-all with 2:32 to play before using a Shannon Grant free throw and a last-second layup for the four-point victory. Grant finished the game with his third double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds, finishing the game connecting on 9-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Romelle Mansel added 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor in the win.
Jackson State finished game shooting 50.0 (26-of-52) percent from the floor, but missed all seven of its three-pointers. The Tigers also finished the night shooting 56.0 (14-of-25) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the day shooting 41.1 (23-of-56) percent from the floor and 47.6 (10-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the day shooting 85.7 (6-of-7) percent from the free throw line.

Jackson State shot 43.3 (13-of-30) percent from the floor, but missed all five of its three-pointers in the first half. They also shot 55.6 (5-of-6) percent from the free throw line, and led the rebounding battle 20-17. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the first half shooting 43.3 (13-of-30) percent from the floor and 54.5 (6-of-11) from beyond the arc. They also connected on both of their free throw attempts in the opening half.
Jackson State finished second half shooting 59.1 (13-of-22) percent from the floor, but missed its only two three-pointers. They also finished the second half shooting 56.3 (9-of-16) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the second half shooting 38.5 (10-of-26) percent from the floor and 40.0 (4-of-10) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 80.0 (4-of-5) percent from the free throw line.Â
