MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Wilbert Perez blasted his fourth home run of the season but it wasn't enough as Jackson State dropped the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series opener 6-3 to Alabama State at Wheeler-Watkins Stadium on Friday night.
Jackson State (16-15, 4-9 SWAC) collected seven hits off a pair of Alabama State (17-18, 10-3) SWAC with Robert Tate Jr. leading the way finishing 2-for-4 on the night. The big hit of the night from Perez came in the fourth inning to give the Tigers an early lead before Alabama State came back to take the lead and hold on for the win.
Brandon Haston (1-6) suffered the loss working 6.1 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits. He struck out four before giving way to CJ Lewis for the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Kelvin Agosto singled down the lf line, RBI (3-2); McIntosh advanced to third; Parmentier scored. Isaiah Landry reached on a fielding error by 3b (2-1); Agosto advanced to second; McIntosh scored, unearned, Alabama State 4-3.
- 7th inning - Kameron Douglas singled through the right side, RBI (1-0); Landry scored. Espaillat singled through the right side, RBI (0-0); Smiley advanced to second; Douglas scored, Alabama State 6-3.
