JACKSON, Miss.| Mari Stephens collected four hits in four at bats, as Jackson State University defeated Mississippi Valley 12-5 on Saturday at JSU Softball Field.
Stephens hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jace Jackson hit a sacrifice fly, and Mississippi Valley committed an error, each scoring one run.
- The Tigers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Julie Lopez grounded out, and Valerie Joaquin singled to center field, each scoring one run.
- Mississippi Valley flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 5-4.
- The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Aulora Edwards that drove in one.
- JSU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Stephens homered to center field, scoring two runs, to give Jackson State the upper hand, 6-5.
- The Tigers scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth inning as Ariana Murillo singled, scoring one run, Stephens singled, scoring one run, and Jackson tripled, scoring three runs

GAME 3 | Jackson State 18, Mississippi Valley State 7
JACKSON, Miss.| Mackenzie Barney collected four RBIs to help lead the Jackson State Tigers past the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes 18-7 on Saturday.
Sofia Gonzalez (6-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
Barney went 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Tigers. Devree Godinez put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and three RBI. Julie Lopez also chipped in for Jackson State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a triple and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (23-20, 12-7 SWAC) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
- JSU's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of freshman Hermariya Stephens.
- The Delta Devilettes then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 7-4 until the Tigers expanded their advantage in the second.
- The Jackson State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Barney, which brought the score to 13-4 in favor of the Tigers.
- The Tigers kept Mississippi Valley State scoreless before building their lead to 16-4 the following inning.
- JSU recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run triple from Lopez.
- Jackson State held the Delta Devilettes without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning.
- The Tigers sent in two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of freshman Brooklyn Morris, bringing the score to 18-4 in favor of Jackson State.
- Mississippi Valley State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Tigers still coasted to the 18-7 win.
