DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| The Jackson State softball team struggled on Friday, falling to Bethune-Cookman 11-2 in its series opener on the road.
Brooklyn Morris (6-6) got the ball to start for Jackson State and took the loss.
In the batter's box, the Tigers were led by Kristina Carlson, who went 1-for-2 on the day with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 3-0, Jackson State (23-21, 13-8 SWAC) first put runs on the board in the second inning.
- JSU got an RBI single from Carlson, scoring Julie Lopez from second base.
- The Tigers kept the deficit at 3-1 before closing the gap further in the third.
- Mari Stephens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State, which tightened the Wildcats lead to 3-2.
- The Tigers were unable to get any closer, as Bethune-Cookman added eight runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.

- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed one run across.
- Morris faced 31 Bethune-Cookman hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and five fly balls.
- The Tigers drew four walks from Bethune-Cookman.
