JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State Tigers were not able to record a run against Florida A&M despite totaling five hits in the matchup Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell 2-0.
Madison McDowell (0-2) got the ball to start for Jackson State and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Brooklyn Morris was a bright spot for the Tigers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
At the plate, the Tigers were paced by Meah Almaraz, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State managed (19-17, 9-5 SWAC) one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
- The Tigers last got a runner on third in the fifth, when Julie Lopez made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
- Florida A&M scored two runs in the sixth inning.
- JSU was unable to climb back in to the game, falling 2-0.
Inside the Numbers
- Jackson State pitchers limited Florida A&M to just 1-for-7 (.143) with runners in scoring position.
- Almaraz led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.
- Florida A&M was led offensively by Spooner, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
- Hughes led the Rattlers pitching staff, throwing seven scoreless innings.
