JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State allowed just six hits in a doubleheader sweep in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), finishing off the series with its 10th consecutive victory and third consecutive conference series sweep, giving head coach Omar Johnson his 600th career victory.
Eric Elliott (6-0) picked up the win in game one logging 7.0 innings and allowing just two hits with 12 strikeouts. He gave way to Stevins Spurgeon Jr. who gave up one hit in 1.0 inning and Erick Gonzalez who pitched a scoreless ninth allowing a pair of hits. The Tigers pounded out 11 hits in the opener with four players picking up a pair of hits each. Jordan McCladdie finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run scored while hitting his fourth home run of the season, and Joseph Eichelberger finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Hederick Torres finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Davione Hull finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.
In the nighcap, Gonzalez (7-3) picked up the win working 7.0 innings and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts, while Spurgeon pitched the final 2.0 innings of scoreless and hitless relief. The Tigers collected nine hits in the nightcap with a pair of players picking up multiple hits. Wilbert Perez finished 2-for-5 and Arjun Huerta went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBI with a triple.
