Tigers Fight Back for a Thrilling Road Win

HAMMOND, La.| The Jackson State soccer team fought its way back to victory in the second half to take down Southeastern Louisiana, 2-1, on the road Sunday night.

After a defensive grind in the first half, the match opened up after the break. Southeastern Louisiana struck first in the 55th minute, but the Tigers refused to fold. Just six minutes later, Caylah Williams delivered the equalizer, scoring off of a perfect feed from Sarah Portis.

Williams wasn't finished. In the 75th minute, down a player after a red card, she found the back of the net again, assisted by Malayah Nuestro, to put JSU on top for good. The forward's two-goal performance lifted the Tigers to their first win of the season.

Between the posts, Valentina Goodloe faced relentless pressure as SLU fired 18 shots, but she answered with six huge saves, including multiple diving stops in crunch time. JSU's back line , led by Sarah Portis, Kianah Farmer, and Makayla Sturkey, dug in and refused to let the Lions back in.
