Jackson State Secures Road Win to Open SWAC Play at Alabama A&M

Huntsville, Ala.| The Jackson State women's soccer team earned its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Alabama A&M 2–0 at the AAMU Soccer Field.

How It Happened

Jackson State (2–5–2, 1–0–0 SWAC) struck early and defended strongly throughout. Kyla Gomez put JSU ahead in the 14th minute with a goal, finishing a chance inside the box.

In the second half, Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper doubled the lead at the 74:02 mark.

Defensively, goalkeeper Taylor Osborn was stellar in her first start of the year, recording six saves to earn a clean sheet.

The back line, anchored by Sarah Portis, Makayla Sturkey, and Kianah Farmer, limited Alabama A&M to 10 total shots and kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

"I thought we were good value for the match and all credit to the players as they played at a high level and were extremely committed on the day," said head coach Ted Flogaites. "I am very proud of the team today and thought we played some lovely futbol at times and our ideas were with the intent to be dominant, so I'm a fan of the performance for sure."
