Jackson State Falls to Florida A&M on the Road

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| The Jackson State women's basketball team shot 55.6 percent from three-point range, but fell to Florida A&M 68-63 on the road Thursday evening.

The Tigers had two players score in double figures, led by Angel Wilkinson, who had 18 points and six rebounds. Jaileyah Cotton tacked on 10 points and five assists and Rhema Pegues added seven points and seven rebounds.

The JSU offense was very productive from beyond the arc, pouring in 10 threes on 18 attempts. Wilkinson was the most prolific shooter for the Tigers, draining five treys in the contest.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State (4-14, 2-4 SWAC) went on a 5-0 run with 4:47 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Wilkinson, to take a 9-6 lead.
  • Florida A&M then responded to tie things up at 16-16 heading into the second quarter.
  • JSU capitalized on three Florida A&M turnovers in the period, turning them into four points on the other end of the floor.
  • The Tigers turned the first quarter tie into a 23-21 lead before going on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Jada Patton, to increase its lead to 30-21.
  • The Rattlers cut into that lead, but JSU still enjoyed a 39-33 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Jackson State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down five three-point shots to account for 15 of its 23 points.
  • The Tigers lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Rattlers 56-51 entering the fourth.
  • JSU knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.
  • FAMU kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 65-58 advantage before Jackson State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Camryn O'Neil's layup, to shrink the deficit to 65-63 with 1:59 to go in the contest.
  • Florida A&M responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 68-63.
  • Jackson State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
