BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State track and field wrapped up the first half of the weekend on Friday in Birmingham with a strong showing at the UAB Blazer Invitational.
Sedgwrick Pitts Jr. headlined three new personal bests for the Tigers, winning the 200m dash with a time of 21.14. Pitts' time is now fourth in HBCU rankings, ninth in Division 1 rankings, and 11th in NCAA rankings.
Ronald Huddleston recorded a personal best in the 60m dash, clocking in at 6.79. His time placed ninth in HBCU rankings and in the top 50 for all Division 1.
Jordan Robinson also set a personal record for the 60m dash with a 7.22.
Graduate transfer
Kaiden Berry immediately made his presence known for the Tigers by placing third in shot put, throwing a distance of 16.75m in his first time as a Tiger.
Godfrey Kimutai came in third place in the men's 3k with a time of 9:08.11.
On the women's side, seniors
Xhamani Thompson and
Amara Hawkins-Quinones both placed in the top five in the 500m and 600m races, respectively.
Overall, the Tigers achieved nine top-five finishes across all events.
Jackson State closes the weekend at the UAB Vulcan Invite on Saturday, with events scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
