JACKSON, Miss.| Five Jackson State players collected at least two hits, but the Tigers fell to the Belhaven Blazers 9-5 Wednesday.
Brooklyn Morris (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State. Jayden Rutledge was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (4-1) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning.
- The Tigers got an RBI single from Meah Almarez, scoring Ka'Liyah Gipson from third base.
- JSU lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 3-1.
- Jackson State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a Makenzie Barney, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Tigers.
- JSU's lead had disappeared once the seventh inning came around and turned into a 9-4 Belhaven advantage, when the Tigers cut that deficit to 9-5.
- The Tigers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Gabrielle Willis, but the seventh inning rally fell short as the Blazers held on.

- Willis led the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI.
- The Tigers out-hit the Blazers at a 12-9 clip.
- Jackson State went 5-for-12 (.417) with runners in scoring position.
- JSU's pitchers faced 32 Belhaven hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out three.
- Belhaven was led offensively by K. Steverson, who went 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs.
- K. Rouse led the Blazers pitching staff, throwing one scoreless inning.

The Tigers will travel to Commerce, Texas to open play in the Lion Invitational on Friday. JSU will face Missouri State at 9 a.m. and Southeast Missouri at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
