VERO BEACH, Fla. | Jackson State hits the road for the second time in three days when it opens play against Texas Southern on Friday morning in the opening game for the Tigers in the Andre Dawson Classic.
First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. (ET) on MLB.com. The weekend will feature games against Yale (MLB Network) and Grambling State (MLB.com), and is the second consecutive weekend that Jackson State will participate in an MLB weekend.
Jackson State (1-3) looks to get back on track after back-to-back losses to Alcorn State and Ole Miss. The Tigers are led offensively Ledy Alvarez (.600/1.533/.800/.733) who has collected six hits in 10 at-bats with five runs scored and a pair of RBI, and has reached base in all four games this season. Meanwhile, Isaac McClenty, Tyree Reed, Pierre Cabral, and Robert Tate Jr. have picked up three hits each for the Tigers. Cabral leads the team with four RBI, while McClemty and Reed have three each.
The Tigers are 10-of-11 in stolen base opportunities through four games this season, with Alvarez a perfect 5-for-5.
On the mound, Jackson State is paced by Derek Arrocha (1-0) - the reigning SWAC Newcomer of the Week - who struck out nine in 6.0 innings of work against Alabama A&M last Saturday. The Tigers have used 12 pitchers through the first week of the season with Talmadge Davis and Jaedeyn Edwards each recording a 0.00 earned run average,
