BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Malayna Mallory and
Korbin Lewis setting new school records headlined the first day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday.
Mallory, a freshman from St. Petersburg, Florida, etched her name in the record books, winning the women's weight throw with a distance of 17.65m. Lewis also made history with his record vault of 4.42m in the men's pole vault event. He earned a bronze medal to accompany his new record.
Kaiden Berry continued a great day for Jackson State throwers, claiming the gold medal in the men's shot put, throwing for a distance of 16.39m.
Godfrey Kimutai and
Eric Lagat rounded out the Tigers' appearances at the podium as they placed second and third, respectively, in the men's 3K. Kimutai finished with a time of 8:35.64, while Lagat clocked in at 8:45.52, both personal bests.

Joan Koech (women's 3k).
