Tigers fall in overtime on the road

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Jackson State fell 85-76 in overtime to Prairie View A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the William J. Nicks Building on Thursday night.

Jackson State (9-19, 8-7 SWAC), who played without second-leading scorer Jayme Mitchell Jr. on Thursday night, was led by Daeshun Ruffin with 28 points and six assists on the night. He was joined in double figures by Tamarion Hoover with 13 points off the bench and Devin Ree with 11 points and 13 rebounds - his first double-double in a Jackson State uniform.

Jackson State shot 39.7 (25-of-63) percent from the floor and 34.6 (9-of-26) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 77.3 (17-of-22) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M finished the overtime period shooting 36.1 (26-of-72) percent from the floor and 47.8 (11-of-23) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 91.7 (22-of-24) percent from the free throw line.

Dontae Horn led Prairie View A&M (12-17, 7-9 SWAC) with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

Inside the Numbers
Jackson State finished the first half shooting 44.0 (11-of-25) percent from the floor and 36.4 (4-of-11) percent from beyond the arc, while also hitting all seven of its free throws. Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M finished the first half shooting 36.7 (11-of-30) percent from the floor and 37.5 (3-of-8) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 85.7 (6-of-7) percent from the free throw line.

Jackson State trailed by as many as nine in the first half (30-21) with 5:18 remaining before outscoring Prairie View A&M 12-1 for the remainder of the first half, and the Tigers outrebounded Prairie View A&M, 17-15 in the opening half.

The Tigers shot 50.0 (14-of-28) percent from the floor and 41.7 (5-of-12) percent from beyond the arc in the second half, while also shooting 81.8 (9-of-11) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M finished the second half shooting 35.3 (12-of-34) percent from the floor and 63.6 (7-of-11) percent from beyond the arc, while also hitting all 13 of its free throws.

In the overtime period, Jackson State was held without a basket, and connected on one free throw.
