Tigers fall to Mississippi Valley State, UNC Asheville on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Braddy Field, falling to Mississippi Valley State 14-8 and to UNC Asheville 7-1.

In the opener, Pierre Cabral led Jackson State at the plate finishing 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI; while four other Tigers collected a pair of hits including Robert Tate Jr. finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, an RBI, and a triple. Tyree Reed finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and triple, and Tyshon Patty finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI with a double.

Talmadge Davis (0-1), the fifth of six pitchers used in the opener, suffered the loss working 0.1 innings and allowed five runs on just one hit. Shemar Harris came on to record 0.1 innings and record the final out of the Mississippi Valley State ninth inning. Trae Burton earned the start and went 5.1 innings and allowed a pair of runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Troy Wilson Jr. and Reed led Jackson State (6-6) at the plate finishing with a pair of hits each. Reed finished the game 2-for-4, while Wilson finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Derek Arrocha (2-1) suffered the loss working 5.2 innings in the start allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts, while Joe Williams and Darius Dampier came on for the final 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just three hits combined.
