ITTA BENA, Miss. | Jayme Mitchell Jr. had a career night, leading three players in double figures, and helping Jackson State to a 97-81 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Mississippi Valley State at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
Mitchell stepped up big in the absence of Daeshun Ruffin, the nation's second-leading scorer who missed the contest, with his first career double-double finishing with a career-high 39 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Mitchell finished the night 9-of-19 from the floor, but more importantly 17-of-19 from the free throw line. He was joined in double figures by Dorian McMillian with 23 points and four assists, while Dionjahe Thomas recorded his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Jackson State finished the night shooting 41.8 (28-of-67) percent from the floor and 34.3 (12-of-35) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 82.9 (29-of-35) percent from the free throw line and outrebounded Mississippi Valley State 52-30. Meanwhile, the Delta Devils finished the night shooting 45.3 (29-of-64) percent from the floor and 36.8 (7-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 66.7 (16-of-24) percent from the free throw line.
Michael James led Mississippi Valley State with 32 points, while Daniel Mayfield added 30.

Jackson State finished the first half shooting 40.6 (13-of-32) percent from the floor and 26.3 (5-of-19) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 82.4 (14-of-17) percent from the free throw line to build a 45-38 lead at the break. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State 41.9 (13-of-31) percent from the floor and 45.5 (5-of-11) percent from beyond the arc in the opening half, while also shooting 77.8 (7-of-9) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, the Tigers shot 42.9 (15-of-35) percent from the floor in the second half, while also shooting 43.8 (7-of-16) percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 (15-of-18) percent from the free throw line. Mississippi Valley State shot 48.5 (16-of-33) percent from the floor and just 25.0 (2-of-8) percent from beyond the arc in the second half. They also finished the second half shooting 60.0 (9-of-15) percent from the free throw line.
