ATLANTA, Ga. | Jalen Tatum calmly stepped to the line with three seconds remaining and drained a pair of free throws before Jackson State was able to knock away a long in-bounds pass from Grambling State for a 68-65 victory at Gateway Center Arena in the second round of the Pepsi SWAC Basketball Tournament presented by Buick.
Jackson State trailed by as many as nine points (15:33) in the second half before storming back to a lead behind the second half shooting of Dorian McMillian. The sophomore finished the night with15 points off the bench, all in the second half hitting 3-of-8 from long distance and gave Jackson State the lead with seven minutes remaining. The two teams traded baskets until Jackson State took a 66-65 lead on a driving lay-up from Tatum with 24 seconds to play.
Tatum finished with a game-high 18 points and added four assists, playing a season-high 36 minutes. Delyle Williams, filling in for the injured Daeshun Ruffin, finished with 13 points (in 36 minutes), and Jayme Mitchell Jr. added 12 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Tamarion Hoover added a game-high nine rebounds for the Tigers.
Jackson State finished the night shooting 37.3 (22-of-59) percent from the floor and 26.9 (7-of-26) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 65.4 (17-of-26) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Grambling State finished the night shooting 38.9 (21-of-54) percent from the floor and 40.0 (6-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 73.9 (17-of-23) percent from the free throw line.
Antonio Munoz led four Grambling State players in double figures with 14 points.

Jackson State finished the first half shooting 32.4 (11-of-34) percent from the floor and 23.1 (3-of-13) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 50.0 (3-of-6) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Grambling State shot 32.0 (8-of-25) percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, while also shooting 25.0 (2-of-8) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the first half shooting 69.2 (9-of-13) percent from the free throw line.
The Tigers finished the second half shooting 44.0 (11-of-25) percent from the floor and 30.8 (4-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 70.0 (14-of-20) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Grambling State finished the second half shooting 44.8 (13-of-29) percent from the floor and 57.1 (4-of-7) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 80.0 (8-of-10) percent from the free throw line.
