BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State claimed three Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly awards announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon for their performances last week.
Isabella Benavides was named SWAC Women's Player of the Week after helping lead Jackson State to a pair of wins on the road against Southern and Alabama State. The senior went 3-1 in her matches, scoring victories in both doubles and singles competition. Benavides won her doubles match against the Hornets 6-2 alongside
Paula Corbalan. She also claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Jaguars and a 7-6, 6-0 win against the Hornets in singles competition.
Victoria Linkovski was named SWAC Women's Co-Newcomer of the Week after a big day against the Jaguars, where she swept both of her matches. Her doubles win came alongside
Helen Hernandez with a 6-4 win at number one. while claiming a 6-0, 6-1 decision in her singles match to help the Tigers shut out Southern on Saturday.
Ching Chang Chiu took the SWAC Player of the Week honor on the men's side after a 2-0 day against the Jaguars. His signature win came in a match-clinching 6-4, 6-0 singles victory at number two. He also played a significant role in securing the doubles point for the Tigers, as he, along with
Chen Hung-Yu, won the point with a 6-3 victory.
