HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Jackson State softball team rallied from an 8-8 tie in the sixth inning to win in dramatic fashion, securing an 18-9 victory over Alabama A&M Friday afternoon on the road.
Brooklyn Morris (2-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The left-hander went three innings, giving up one run on six hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (10-11, 2-2 SWAC) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning.
- The Tiger's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Jace Jackson and a two-run flyout from Kristina Carlson.
- Alabama A&M (13-15, 0-4 SWAC) then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-3 until the Tigers expanded their advantage in the third.
- JSU plated two runs off of Alabama A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Mackenzie Barney, which brought the Tigers lead to 8-3.
- The Bulldogs fired back to tie the ballgame at eight before Jackson State reclaimed an 18-8 advantage in the seventh inning.
- The Tigers bats heated up in the inning, scoring 10 runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Barney and a two-run single from Nakayla Williams.
- Alabama A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Jackson State still coasted to the 18-9 win.

- Jackson State finished with 20 hits, 18 runs, 15 RBIs and one error.
- Jorgina Gant struck out six Bulldogs hitters.
- The Tigers power output was led by Barney, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
