STARKVILLE, Miss. | Jackson State dropped a 17-1 non-conference contest to No. 6 Mississippi State on a chilly Tuesday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
Tyree Reed reached on a single through the left side in the first inning, extending his hit streak to 12 games; before the Tigers loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning. Jackson State (10-12) took advantage of three straight walks when Robert Tate Jr. drove in Hederick Torres from third on an fielder's choice to short.
Joe Williams (0-2) suffered the loss in his first collegiate start, working the first 1.1 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on just two hits. The Tigers used five other pitchers on the day, including Talmadge Davis who came on for the final 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
