JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State battled from behind most of the day until Pierre Cabral gave the Tigers a walk-off win on the the second pitch of his at-bat in the bottom of the ninth in a 9-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon at Braddy Field.
With runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Cabral (ahead in the count 1-0) hit the second pitch right back up the middle to drive in Parker Winfield from third to tie the game and Tyshon Patty from second to win the game in front of the home crowd. Jackson State had battled back to tie the game at 6-all in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Panthers extended the lead to 8-6; however, Jackson State trimmed the deficit to one at 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. to set the stage for the ninth inning.
Cabral finished 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of runs scored and four RBI including a two-run home run leading the Tigers' 16-hit attack, while Patty finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Robert Tate Jr. finished 3-for-5 with a run scored, and Tyree Reed went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kade Walker (4-2) got the win out of the bullpen, working the final 1.2 innings allowing one run on one hit, while Talmadge Davis went 3.0 innings in his first start allowing a pair of runs on one hit with seven strikeouts.
