JACKSON, Miss. | Ariah Hill a grand slam to help propel the Jackson State softball team over Bethune-Cookman 9-6 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The Tigers came from behind to seal the series in walk off fashion at the JSU Softball Field.
Brooklyn Morris (4-5) started in the circle and picked up the win in game one for Jackson State . The southpaw went seven innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
Hill went 1-for-1 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Tigers. Ka'Liyah Gipson put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Gabrielle Willis also contributed for Jackson State, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing 2-0, the Jackson State (13-12, 5-2 SWAC) first put runs on the board in the first inning.
- JSU plated two runs off of Bethune-Cookman pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Jace Jackson.
- The Wildcats broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the second inning, when the Tigers got back on the scoreboard.
- The Tigers picked up two runs when a single from Gipson scored Beija Allen and Nakayla Williams, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Wildcats.
- Jackson State held the Wildcats off the board before rallying to even it up at five in the fourth.
- The game stayed tied until the very next inning, when Jackson State got going again on offense.
- A grand slam from Hill off Sofia Coleman cashed in four runs in the frame for the Tigers, bringing the Jackson State advantage to 9-5.
- Bethune-Cookman put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Tigers still held on for the 9-6 win.

Game 2: JSU-7 BCU-6
The Jackson State softball team rallied to score two in the seventh inning and walked it off on a Courtney Little walk from Sofia Coleman that scored Brooklyn Morris to pick up the 7-6 victory over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Saturday afternoon.
Jayden Rutledge (1-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up six runs, three earned, on six hits. Addison Jennings also made an impact in the circle for the Tigers, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Tigers were led by Zaria Keyes, who went 2-for-2 on the day with an in-the-park home run, a walk and two RBIs. Nakayla Williams put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Ariana Murillo also helped out for Jackson State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (14-12, 6-2 SWAC) were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board.
- JSU plated two runs off of Bethune-Cookman's pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Williams.
- The Wildcats then tied the ballgame at two before the Tigers came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning.
- Jackson State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Williams, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.
- JSU's lead had evaporated once the sixth inning came around and turned into a 6-3 Bethune-Cookman advantage, when the Tigers cut that deficit to 6-5.
- The Tigers added two to their tally on Keyes' two-run homer to centerfield.
- Jackson State kept its deficit in check, holding Bethune-Cookman scoreless in the top of the seventh before scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and one out to claim victory, walking it off on a Little walk from Coleman that scored Morris.
