DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | For the second consecutive season, Jackson State took the first game of its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series with Bethune-Cookman, handing the Wildcats their first conference loss of the season with an 8-7 victory at Jackie Robinson Field on Friday night.
Jackson State (13-14, 4-3 SWAC) captured its third consecutive conference victory after breaking a seventh inning tie with a bases-loaded walk to Tyshon Patty and a wild pitch that scored Wilbert Perez for an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning. Following a run by Bethune-Cookman (17-9, 6-1 SWAC) in the bottom of the eighth, Jackson State turned the game over to Kade Walker who registered his first save of the season stranding a pair of runners in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Robert Tate Jr. led Jackson State offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with a pair runs scored and a pair of RBI as Jackson State was held to nine hits.
Jaedeyn Edwards (1-0), the third of four pitchers on the night, picked up the win working 2.1 innings allowing one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts, while Walker came on for 1.0 inning allowing a pair of hits with one strikeout.

- 4th inning (bottom) - Sergio Rivera grounded out to p, SAC, bunt, RBI (1-0 B); Jorge Rodriguez advanced to second; Rodriguez scored; Bethune-Cookman 4-1.
- 5th inning (top) - Asafa Jones singled to first base, advanced to second on a throwing error by 1b (0-0); Perez scored.Tate tripled to right center, 2 RBI, scored on a throwing error by 2b, unearned (1-2 FKB); Patty scored, unearned; Jones scored; Jackson State 5-4.
- 6th inning (bottom) - Erick Almonte doubled to right center, RBI (1-2 KBF); Rivera scored. Lee singled to first base, RBI (3-2 BSFBB); Almonte scored; Bethune-Cookman 6-5.
- 7th inning (top) - Pierre Cabral singled to right field, RBI (1-1 BK); Patty scored; 6-6.
- 8th inning (top) - Patty walked, RBI (3-2 BKFBBB); Isaac McClenty advanced to second; Perez advanced to third; Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. scored. Patty advanced to second on a wild pitch; McClenty advanced to third on a wild pitch; Perez scored on a wild pitch; Jackson State 8-6.
- 8th inning (bottom) - Almonte doubled down the lf line, ground-rule, RBI (2-1 KBB); Rodriguez scored; Jackson State 8-7.
