JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State closed out the regular season with its second consecutive win behind Jayme Mitchell Jr. in an 85-77 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Lee E. Williams AAC on Thursday night.
Mitchell finished the night with 27 points including four three-pointers and finished the night 11-of-12 from the free throw line. He also added nine rebounds and a pair of assists, while Devin Ree added 17 points on a perfect night from the free throw line (8-of-8). They were joined in double figures by Jalen Tatum with 12 points and Dionjahe Thomas with 11 points off the bench.
Jackson State (11-20, 10-8 SWAC) finished the night shooting 38.8 (19-of-49) percent from the floor and 38.9 (7-of-18) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 80.0 (40-of-50) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the night shooting 51.2 (22-of-43) percent from the floor and 50.0 (9-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Delta Devils finished the night shooting 80.0 (24-of-30) percent from the free throw line.
Michael James led three players in double figures with 22 points for Mississippi Valley State.

Jackson State shot 29.0 (9-of-31) percent from the floor and 28.6 (4-of-14) percent from beyond the arc in the opening half. They also shot 73.7 (14-of-19) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State shot 50.0 (10-of-20) percent from the floor and 55.6 (5-of-9) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 84.2 (16-of-19) percent from the free throw line.
In the second half, Jackson State shot 55.6 (10-of-18) percent from the floor and 75.0 (3-of-4) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 83.9 (26-of-31) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State finished the second half shooting 52.2 (12-of-23) percent from the floor and 44.4 (4-of-9) percent from beyond the arc, while shooting 72.7 (8-of-11) percent from the free throw line.
Jackson State outrebounded Mississippi Valley State and assisted on eight of 19 baskets. Daeshun Ruffin played just 14 minutes before leaving the game in the first half with nine points and a pair of assists.
The two teams combined to shoot 80 free throws, including 42 in the second half.
