CLINTON, Miss. | The Jackson State men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season with a strong performance at the Mississippi College Spring Classic, posting five first-place finishes and several personal bests, with both teams finishing in third place overall.
The Tigers' performance was highlighted by standout efforts in the field and hurdle events. Freshman
Malayna Mallory continued her impressive freshman campaign, taking first place in both the women's discus and hammer throws with distances of 43.23m and 49.48m, respectively.
Kaiden Berry also continued to dominate in the men's shot put, winning the event with a 16.45m distance.
Kayla Williams secured the first first-place finish of her career in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.43.
Rickey Green III earned first place in the 110m hurdles, clocking in at 14.57, to round off the Tigers' first-place finishes.
Jaden Dix headlined the Tigers' four personal bests with a 21.46 in the 200m dash, which was also the second-best time among all competitions.
Jordin Smith also set a personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 23.37. Callie Callicut set a new personal best in the 400m race with a 58.17 time, while Duncan Koima set a personal best in the 5k, crossing the finish line in 15:39.71.
